UK snow: Snow incoming as Britain to be blasted with winter chill, maps show | Weather | News

High pressure is to be expected until at least Wednesday 26 January caused by an easterly blowing jet stream blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean.

On Saturday, the high pressure will gradually start to move towards continental Europe according to Alex Deakin at the Met Office.

Showers will be likely in the north west and south east on Saturday evening.

Another jet stream this time coming south from Greenland will bring the potential for fog and frost at the start of next week.

There is the possibility of southerly and northerly winds at the start of the week.

High winds are likely to emerge in the northwest due to the emergence of higher pressure on Thursday 20 January.

This will allow colder air to push in across the country particularly in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England.

According to WXCharts this is unlikely to last, with relatively dry weather forecast for next weekend.

“Frosty starts for the southern half of the UK, but temperatures in general close to average, even mild in the north. However, winds in the north will bring quite a chill factor at times.

“The only places that look like seeing wintry showers are really the highest ground in Scotland, at least for the next week.”

John Gresiak Senior Forecaster at AccuWeather agreed that there could be freezing weather in some areas by the end of the month.

He said: “One model is suggesting some colder weather from the 28th to the 30th of the month with the potential for gusty winds and some rain and snow showers.”
