UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the crackdown on a peaceful demonstration in Myanmar, which resulted in several deaths. He called for the return of power to the civilian government, Trend reports citing TASS.
“I condemn the use of lethal violence in Myanmar. The use of lethal fire, threats and violence against peaceful demonstrators is unacceptable. Everyone has the right to peaceful assembly. I call on all parties to respect the election results and return to civilian rule,” he wrote in Twitter.
According to local media reports, on Saturday, during the dispersal of the demonstration, two people were killed and six were injured.
