West concerned about deepening ties between Russia and Turkey

Western countries are increasingly concerned about the deepening cooperation between Russia and Turkey. This was reported on Saturday by the Financial Times newspaper, citing a number of unnamed Western sources following the results of negotiations between the Russian presidents. Vladimir Putin and Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi, held on 5 August.

Six sources told the publication that they are concerned about the two leaders’ statements about their intention to deepen cooperation in the field of trade and the economy. Another EU official said that Brussels is “more and more closely” monitoring Turkish-Russian relations, while another called Ankara’s position “opportunist”. “We are trying to make Turkey listen to our concerns,” he is quoted in the article as saying.
