An Australian mum has been inundated with suggestions on how to make her glassware sparkle after asking how to clean her wine glasses.

The woman posted on a popular Facebook group asking for advice – and people were quick to come to her aid.

‘A small splash of vinegar in water and a cloth and then give them a really good polish,’ one woman said – adding a microfibre cloth works wonders.

But others disagreed, adding their glasses ‘always look foggy’ when they go through the dishwasher.

How do you wash your wineglasses?

  • By hand, with soapy water 29 votes
  • I put mine in the dishwasher 32 votes

‘I wash mine under a hot tap with detergent. I just use my hands to clean them. Then I rinse them and hang them  upside down on the wine rack,’ another mum said.

Another woman chooses to wash hers in soapy water and then rinse with water and vinegar.

‘I wash mine with hot soapy water and then dry them with a tea towel. No streaks or smudges, perfectly sparkling every time,’ one woman said.

According to the experts at Wine Ware in the UK, crystal and glass wine glasses should be washed the same way.

They recommend hand washing using hot water first to get rid of the left over wine immediately, leaving them overnight will make achieving a sparkling clean finish hard.

According to experts at Molly Maid soaking the glasses in vinegar for an hour can help return them to their former glory.

Once this has been done then the glass should be dried with a lint-free towel.

And if people do choose to use the dishwasher they should rinse the glasses in hot water when they come out.

Drying the glasses immediately reduce the risk of streaks and water spots.
