Starting this Sunday (20) against América-MG, Willian was once again decisive for Palmeiras and gave the team a victory in the last minute of the game. With two goals from him, the team won by 2-1, in a match for the fifth round of the Brazilian Championship.
The striker has reached eight goals this season and shares the squad’s artillery with Ron, lacking in the duel because of muscle wastage. Geovane was the one who scored for the miners.
The victory helps alleviate the pressure on coach Abel Ferreira. Despite the team coming from another positive result in the last Wednesday (16), when they beat Juventude, 3-0, the coach had been criticized after the defeat in the final of the Campeonato Paulista against São Paulo, the elimination in the Cup do Brasil against the CRB and the draw in the derby against Corinthians by Nacional.
When the ball rolled at Allianz Parque, Geovane opened the scoring at 37 of the first half and Willian equalized in the following minute.
Before the break, America still had a chance to jump ahead again, when defender Renan committed a penalty on Rodolfo. On the charge, however, Jailson defended Ademir’s kick.
In the final stage, Palmeiras crushed América and pressed for most of the final 45 minutes. He submitted more than ten times and hit a ball on the crossbar with Deyverson before Willian’s star shined, at 51.
During the duel, Palmeiras played for six minutes with a player less, while Patrick de Paula had to stay out of the field to remove a piercing in his ear. It is not allowed to act with the prop.
He took to the field with a protection in place, but when the referee noticed, ordered the steering wheel to remove the piercing. The delay in doing this angered even teammates, such as Felipe Melo, who scolded Patrick.
In the next round, Palmeiras will face Red Bull Bragantino, on Wednesday (23), at the opponent’s home. América-MG, on the other hand, will face Juventude, on Thursday (24), at home.
