Young Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai Marries

Pakistani women’s rights activist Malala Yousafzai, who survived a 2012 Pakistani Taliban attack, got married on Tuesday (November 9) in Birmingham, central England, she announced on social media. .

“Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser (Malik) and I have come together to be partners for life ”, she wrote on Twitter, accompanying her post with a photo of her and her new husband on their wedding day. “We had a little nikah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to be embarking on the journey to come together ”, added the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. The nikah is a form of Islamic marriage contract.

Malala had survived an attack by the Pakistani Taliban in 2012. Jihadists from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had burst into the school bus that brought her home, in her native valley of Swat (north-west), and shot her in the head. Malala, now 24, has since become a global icon for girls’ rights to education. She lives in the UK with her family and is a graduate of the prestigious Oxford University.
